Located just across the Potomac River from Virginia and Washington, DC, Maryland’s National Harbor is a vibrant waterfront destination packed with shopping, dining, and entertainment. This November, I stayed at the stylish AC Hotel National Harbor by Marriott, a European-inspired hotel with stunning views of the Potomac River and Washington, DC.

Where I Stayed: AC Hotel National Harbor by Marriott

The AC Hotel National Harbor was the first AC Hotel to open in the Northeast. This eight-story, European-inspired hotel features modern design, sleek furnishings, and incredible views of the Potomac River. I stayed in the Upgraded Queen Room, which overlooked the waterfront and offered amazing views of both the Capital Wheel and the Potomac River — the perfect backdrop for a weekend getaway.

The hotel is centrally located, putting you within walking distance of dozens of restaurants, waterfront activities, and attractions — the perfect home base for a weekend getaway in National Harbor.

Outlet Shopping at Tanger Outlets National Harbor

Just a short rideshare or drive from downtown, Tanger Outlets National Harbor offers one of the best shopping experiences in the DC area for travelers who love a good deal. With over 80 designer and name-brand outlet stores, this open-air shopping center is a go-to for scoring luxury pieces at discounted prices.

You’ll find popular brands like Coach, Michael Kors, Theory, Vince, Polo Ralph Lauren, HUGO Boss, Movado, Nike, and Sephora, plus a range of dining options and seasonal promotions. As a budget-conscious traveler, I loved browsing the stylish finds without blowing my entire travel budget.

Tip: If you’re staying at a nearby hotel like the AC Hotel or Gaylord National, it’s about a 5–10 minute drive to the outlets. Most rideshares cost under $10 each way.

Riding the Capital Wheel

The Capital Wheel is a massive Ferris Wheel and the focal point of the Harbor. It stands at about 180-feet and offers incredible views of the Potomac River. The Capital Wheel is climate-controlled, which I appreciated on a cold night. I was treated to the VIP Experience at the Wheel including leather bucket seats, a glass floor and music by Alexa.

The VIP gondola can accommodate up to 4 passengers; tickets are $50 per person. I also stopped by the Capital Wheel’s waterfront open-air lounge, the Flight Deck, which is open seasonally offering a great spot to watch the sunset or just chill with beer, wine or soft drinks. They offer super fun insulated souvenir cups so you can take your drink with you on your ride.

Dinner at The Walrus Oyster & Ale House

Located just steps from the AC Hotel, The Walrus Oyster & Ale House is a popular local eatery with an all-scratch kitchen and a focus on seasonal, fresh ingredients. Their menu has something for everyone — from Maryland crab soup and steamed mussels to authentic crab cakes.

As a vegetarian, I was thrilled with their options. I ordered:

  • Truffle Fries (some of the best I’ve ever had!)
  • Queso Frito
  • The Half Pound Walrus Burger with an Impossible patty
  • And for dessert, a giant slice of Smith Island Cake

Everything was flavorful, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere felt casual but elevated.

Visiting Replay Pop-Up Lounge at Gaylord National

If you love themed bars and Instagrammable spots, don’t miss the Replay Lounge pop-up at Pose Rooftop Lounge in the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. This rotating experience transforms the rooftop into a vibrant 1980s wonderland, complete with retro arcade games, neon lights, and themed cocktails inspired by classic movies.

I tried their Chocolate Milkshake (non-alcoholic), and it was massive — perfect for sharing. Their fall cocktail menu featured fun drinks like the Pumpkin Spice Milkshake, Scarface, Pretty in Pink, and Ardi’s Spiked Cobbler.

A Nightcap at the AC Lounge

Before heading to bed, I enjoyed a drink at the AC Lounge, located in the lobby of the hotel. The lounge puts a modern twist on the traditional hotel bar with its curated wine-on-tap list, craft cocktails, and local beers.

The bartenders were incredibly friendly and gave me some great local tips. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring National Harbor.

Brunch at Sauciety at The Westin Washington National Harbor

To cap off my trip, I headed to Sauciety, located in The Westin Washington National Harbor, for a relaxing waterfront brunch. The restaurant serves American classics with a twist, plus an array of flavorful sauces and dips.

I went with:

  • French toast
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Breakfast potatoes
  • Fresh fruit
  • Earl Grey tea

Sitting by the water as the sun came up was the ideal way to start my Sunday.
